AMS Testifies on Capitol Hill for Funding for Life Sciences Research

Samuel M. Rankin, III, AMS Associate Executive Director and Director of the AMS Washington Office, testified on March 11, 2008 before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee about the lack of sustained, adequate funding for scientific research.  He encouraged Congress to consider a mechanism of federal funding for research that ensures year-over-year funding that supports growth and competitiveness of the U.S. science enterprise.

Rankin was one of a panel of witnesses before the committee (chaired by Senator Edward Kennedy, D-MA) who spoke on how a lack of funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation affects current and future scientific research.
