  • Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How do I find out what AMS has on file as my current preference for receiving voting instructions (e-mail or U.S. mail) and how do I change it?

Answer: Contact the AMS Member & Customer Services Department, cust-serv@ams.org, 800-321-4267, extension 4128 (from the U.S. or Canada) or 401-455-4132.

Question: When are election information and ballots sent to members?

Answer: Traditional paper ballots and the e-mail containing online voting instructions are sent in late August.  Members residing in the U.S.A. can expect to receive paper ballots by mid-September.

Question: When does voting end?

Answer: Voting ends first Friday in November.

Questions: How do I vote online?

Answer: You will need two pieces of personal information:  your AMS Member Code and your E-signature.  This information is sent to you each year by e-mail or with your paper ballot and will permit you to log in at the voting website and complete your ballot online.  Biographical information about each candidate is available on the voting website once you log in and is also available in the September issue of the Notices of the AMS(Note:  The voting website is currently closed and will reopen when the next election starts in late August.)

Question: If I receive a paper ballot, can I still vote online?

Answer: Yes. Your ballot is preprinted with the information you need to log in to the voting website . You need to enter your AMS Member Code and E-signature.

Question: If I do not receive or misplace my voting e-mail or my paper ballot, how can I vote?

Answer: If you want to vote online, you will need your login credentials.  If your current e-mail address is on file with the AMS as of August 1 of the year in which you are voting, then you can go to the voting website and click on the "e-mail my login credentials" link.  To find out what e-mail address is currently on file with the AMS, look in the Combined Membership List (CML).

If your current e-mail address is not on file with the AMS, or if you want a paper ballot, then a replacement paper ballot will be issued. Call Survey & Ballot Systems (952-974-2300) and they will send a replacement ballot to the mailing address on file for you with the AMS. To arrange to have a ballot mailed to a different address, you must call the AMS office:  800-321-4267, extension 4128 (from the U.S. and Canada) or 401-455-4128.

Question:  When will the results of the election be announced?

Answer:  The results of the election will be announced in late November.
